SAFEGUARDING, DUTY OF CARE & WELFARE - ENjoy, ENsure, Entrust
It is really important to us as a club that our members (and this includes players, coaches, umpires, managers, scorers, committee) enjoy their netball experience and at all times feel safe, valued and well supported.
As a member of England Netball, the club adopts all policies and specifically those relating to Safeguarding, Equality, Codes of Conduct (for players, parents, volunteers & coaches), Complaints & Whistle Blowing, Disciplinary, Anti Bullying & Harassment, Anti-Doping & Inclusion all of which can be found on the England Netball website www.englandnetball.co.uk under Governance or Safeguarding & ENjoy, ENsure, Entrust.
With specific regard to Safeguarding all of our coaches will be DBS checked and have attended a Safeguarding Course. All coaches will also have an up-to-date first aid certificate.
It is important to remember that safeguarding is everyone's responsibility. If you are worried or have concerns about safeguarding, welfare, bullying, discrimination, harassment or doping please contact the Club's Safeguarding Officer Sam Upton on 07500 877171 or Chair Avril Gray on 07817 838866 who WILL respond and take immediate action.
Please do familiarise yourself with the 'Reporting a safeguarding concern procedure' and 'Reporting a safeguarding concern in the netball environment' documents which can be found on our website under the safeguarding tab.
CODES OF CONDUCT
The Codes of Conduct for Players, Players U18, Parents & Carers & Volunteers can be found on the England Netball website. Please ensure you read ALL of the ones relevant to you. It is very important that the content is understood and adhered to.
COMMUNICATION
Open, timely and ongoing communication from all parties is very important. Players &/or parents/carers should talk to their team coach please if there is anything you think would be helpful for them to know which may be impacting on your/a player’s performance or ability to commit temporarily. Ask questions if you are unsure of anything and speak to someone if you have concerns before it becomes an issue – team coach/manager/captain, Club Safeguarding Officer or Chair.
For ongoing team communication your team coach/manager/captain will set up a What’s app group for their team and Spond (or their app of choice) for team availability. From experience these seem to be the most effective way to both impart relevant information and receive a timely response. Parents will be the main contact for players under the age of 18 but we are happy to include players at their parents’ request.
Please do everything you can to support our coaches, captains & managers by being organised, looking forward at all commitments you have and flagging clashes well in advance and not re-asking for information that you have already had. Some players/parents/carers are brilliant at this and some are not and this often adds considerable additional load to our already busy volunteers.
